Illustrations
A selection of my illustration work—there’s more to see on Instagram @sketchmensch
Procreate Doodles
I’d previously never been overly keen on stylus or tablet sketching—but with Procreate, it’s been fun to bridge the gap between hand-drawn and digital illustration. Frankly, I can’t think of a better way to sketch a tiny cowboy bronco-busting some toast.
Super Heads
I love superhero costume design, particularly the classic costumes of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. A while back, I got the urge to illustrate as many characters as I could. Just heads. Bodies are a serious time commitment.
Post-It Cover Art
In this exercise, I challenged myself to reproduce the cover art from some of my favorite albums at Post-It note scale in one color, using only fine and standard Sharpies. I think the Phil Collins could’ve been better, but you get that it’s him.
Bot Hall of Fame
I like robots of all kinds—heroic ones, funny ones, won’t-let-you-back-in-the-spaceship ones, etc. I started my Bot Hall of Fame to honor the great robots of pop culture, and also to see if I could illustrate in a more dimensional style than I typically favor.
Pin Sets
Illustrating and designing icons can be as relaxing as eating cookies in a candle-lit hot tub. I designed these pin sets around three things I dig—the Brussels metro, Swiss rail, and NASA.
Animals
I like animals—especially animals who look done, so done, with it all.
Octicorn Party
I had the awesome opportunity to illustrate the children’s book, Octicorn Party in collaboration with Kevin Diller and Justin Lowe, the original creators of the character. Octicorn Party, published by Harper Collins, is a sequel to Hello, My Name is Octicorn. You can buy them both on Amazon, or at fine independent bookstores like Powell’s, Green Bean Books, or Annie Bloom’s.
